James Lee Stanley

James Lee Stanley has recorded with such artists as Bonnie Raitt, Larry Carlton, Paul Barerre (Little Feat), Timothy B. Schmit (Eagles), and Rita Coolidge. Many other well known musicians have contributed to this gifted composer, vocalist and musician. His melodies soar and the lyrics are poetry.

James Lee Stanley, the true renaissance man, was born into a musical family in Philadelphia, PA, and already performing and recording for LeGrand Records by the time he was fourteen. He majored in music at Cal State University, and did a stint in the Air Force as a chinese linguist. Even early in his career, he was performing three hundred dates a year with artists as diverse as Bill Cosby, Bonnie Raitt, Robin Williams and Spyro Gyra. Seven studio albums preceded his LIVE album, which was nominated for a Grammy and landed him a job as opener for comedian Steven Wright for the next three years. His Simpatico album was nominated for a Grammy, and was considered by many critics to be a Latin American equivalent of Paul Simon's Graceland.

James has recorded 18 albums so far, as well as producing Peter Tork of the Monkees first solo CD, recording and producing two duet CD's with he and Peter Tork entitled Two Man Band and Once Again; Mike Pinder of the Moody Blues; and Pamela Stanley (for whom he wrote the Classic Dance Hit, "Coming Out of Hiding"). Cartoonist Cathy Guisewite chose him to score three Emmy award-winning CBS-TV Cathy specials and the recent Cathy the Musical. Jamed scored the Cable Award Winning Tom Parks Special and has recently collaborated with songwriter Michael Smith (author of The Dutchman). He also scored the film Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, whose author, Tom Robbins, called him "probably the last great undiscovered singer-songwriter in America." He even appeared as a regular for five seasons on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, once even as the Singing Klingon.

It is only a long lived singer-songwriter career that lets James Lee Stanley unite the unpredictable creativity and the eclectic elements that make up his world. His remarkable ability as a vocalist and composer allow him to create songs, each recorded with a finely crafted backing that sonically enhance the impulse behind the lyric, coupled with his outragously hilarious repartee. He is one of the few all time greats and undisputed geniuses among singer-songwriters.

Fi Magazine listed his Freelance Human Being, as one of the finest recordings of 1998 and it was ranked as one of the Top 200 Recordings of all time by March 1999.

All Wood and Stones is the latest release by James Lee Stanley with James Batdorf. The CD is an amazing collection of Rolling Stones songs played on acoustic guitars and brimming with joyous vocal harmonies.

"The CD is John and I trading lead vocals and doing most of the background vocals on eleven of our favorite classic Rolling Stones songs. Sitting in on guitar solos are Laurence Juber, (late of Paul McCartney & Wings), Paul Barrere (Little Feat) and Peter Tork (Monkees, Shoe Suede Blues and Two Man Band)."

To see him live is to fall in love with his music and his remarkable personal warmth.
